CANNON BEACH, OR (KPTV) -
The Coast Guard rescued two surfers from the Pacific Ocean near Cannon Beach on Monday.
The surfers were trapped in a small cove at the north end of Indian Beach at Ecola State Park. Strong waves were crashing into the jagged cliffs around them, Coast Guard officials said, and the surfers had no way of safely reaching shore.
Just after 1:45 p.m., the Coast Guard sent an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene. They lowered a rescue swimmer 125 feet down and the two surfers were successfully hoisted to safety and returned to Indian Beach.
Neither surfer was hurt.
