Cause still unknown in small paper mill fire

OREGON CITY, OR (KPTV) -

Investigators are trying to figure out what started a fire at a vacant paper mill in Oregon City.

The fire started at the former Blue Heron Paper building at 419 Main St. at about 8 p.m. Monday. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the building and a small fire inside, but the building's sprinkler system kept it contained to one area. Firefighters were able to put out the flames quickly and search the building to make sure no one was inside.

The Blue Heron Paper building is being demolished because the mill was shut down in February. The targeted completion date is August.

It was reported that workers were using welding equipment inside the building, but no official cause has been released. No injuries were reported and damage estimates are unknown at this time.
