Organizers of a series of events next month hope to raise awareness about Parkinson's disease, and it's all being led by a beloved Portland athlete.
Former Trail Blazer Brian Grant and his foundation are planning events for the weekend of July 13-16. On Wednesday, Mayor Sam Adams proclaimed that the weekend will be Parkinson's Weekend in Portland.
Grant was diagnosed with the condition in 2008.
"When I first told people I was going to start an event here in Portland, they said maybe you should go to L.A., maybe you should go to Miami," he said.
But Grant said he thinks the event could not have been any more of a success than in Portland.
