VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A man who police said knocked on the door of a Vancouver home, forced his way in and then barricaded himself inside to start off a six-hour SWAT standoff made his first court appearance Thursday.

Arvell Kindell was arrested late Wednesday night. He's now being held in the Clark County Jail on $50,000 bail and is facing charges of burglary, violation of a domestic violence court order, assault, criminal trespassing, harassment, unlawful imprisonment and malicious mischief.

Vancouver police said the hours-long standoff started at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday after they received a call from a woman who lives near the intersection of 32nd and Harney streets. She told dispatchers she had gotten into a fight with a man and needed help.

A neighbor told FOX 12 that Kindell is the woman's boyfriend. When officers arrived, only Kindell was at the home in question, but they said he took off running to a neighboring home and knocked on the door. That's when Kindell barricaded himself in the home, police said.

The homeowners, who court documents said told Kindell to leave but he refused, managed to escape safely through a back door.

Police said Kindell was wanted for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and had previously been given a "no-contact order" with the woman.

Officers finally took Kindell into custody after using a Taser on him at about 11 p.m.
