PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland mayoral candidate Charlie Hales promised to limit campaign contributions for the general election during a news conference in Southeast Portland Thursday.
Hales earned the most votes in May's primary election, earning a spot on the November ballot in a runoff election against Jefferson Smith, who had the second-highest vote total in the primary.
During the news conference, Hales pledged to only accept contributions up to $600, and to refrain from any self-funding.
"I believe that these limits will take us in the right direction; making the case to a larger number of engaged citizens, and ensuring that no individual or organization will distort the choice that Portlanders should and must make," Hales said.
In addition to limiting the amount of the campaign contributions, Hales promised not to accept any contributions from out of state.
