A helicopter crew searches for Anthony Berlin's body after the boy fell in the river.
GATES, OR (KPTV) -
A fisherman found the body of a 5-year-old boy Friday, more than a month after the child fell in the North Santiam River while fishing with his father.
Linn County deputies said Anthony Berlin's body was first spotted at around 10 a.m. by a fisherman who was near Spencer Hole.
The fisherman saw the body floating along the riverbank near the city of Gates, said Linn County Undersheriff Bruce Riley. Deputies responded and recovered Berlin's body about three miles downstream from where he fell in.
Berlin fell in the river near Niagara Park back on May 18. A family friend, 22-year-old Eric Johnson, jumped in the river in an attempt to save Berlin, but he was swept away by the strong current and also drowned. Johnson's body was recovered that same day.
Gates firefighters and Marion County deputies helped Friday in the recovery of Berlin's body. Weddle Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
