Crews investigating two-alarm apartment fire

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a two-alarm fire in Southeast Portland.

The fire started before 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Meadow Park East Apartments on Southeast 170th and Powell.

Crews arrived to find a number of people outside the building, concerned that someone might be trapped inside the burning unit that was engulfed in flames.

Ladder crews cut holes in the roof to start attacking the blaze from above.

Firefighters were then able to determine that everyone made it out OK.

The incident commander called in a second alarm over worries that the fire was threatening to spread to other units.

They were forced to call the power company and have them shut off the power because arcing electrical lines were threatening firefighters.

Crews were able to get the fire under control at about 12:55 a.m.

The fire completely destroyed one unit and water significantly damaged another.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there are no damage estimates at this time.
