PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland police recovered two stolen Hondas and made one arrest early Monday morning after a high-speed chase on Interstate 205.
Officers first spotted a 1998 Honda Civic and a 1996 Honda Accord near Southeast 116th Avenue and Powell Boulevard just before 3 a.m.
Police said they followed the two cars westbound and officers used spike strips that flattened the tires of the 1998 Civic as the cars turned onto northbound I-205.
The Civic came to a stop and officers arrested the driver, 21-year-old Jessica Valdez-Sotolongo. But the Accord's driver continued to elude police, reaching a speed of 80 mph on I-205.
Because of the suspect's speed, police stopped pursuing the car and followed from a distance. Other police officers later spotted the car as it spun out on the freeway near the North Bryant Street footbridge.
The suspect hopped out of the car and ran off into a neighborhood, escaping police. A K-9 search turned up no sign of the man.
Officers describe him as black, 5'7" tall and 160 pounds with a ponytail or bun in his hair. He is in his mid 20s and wore checkered pants at the time of the chase. The Honda he was driving was stolen in northeast Portland sometime Sunday.
Meanwhile, Valdez-Sotolongo is being held in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and attempting to elude in a vehicle. The car she was driving was stolen in north Portland on June 12.
