PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland police arrested a man Tuesday night accused of
running down a Rose Quarter security guard and taking off.
The incident happened at about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday at North Benton Avenue and Winning Way in the Rose Quarter.
Police officers and paramedics arrived and found an injured on-duty security guard, identified as 44-year-old Elizabeth Forcia. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The victim told police that she was checking the parking lot after seeing a white Ford Explorer. When she got out to the lot, which was supposed to be locked, she noticed that the chain to secure the entrance was either cut or broken.
She then approached the driver, who was out of the Explorer at the time. The driver ran to the car, then drove toward her and hit her, according to police.
Forcia was able to take a picture of the driver before the crash.
The suspect sped northbound on Winning Way, investigators said, and attempted to make a left turn onto North Williams Avenue but crashed into a power pole and bus kiosk.
The suspect then got out of the SUV and ran away in an unknown direction. The car was recovered and towed by police.
SLIDESHOW: Bus shelter damage
By Tuesday evening, officers learned the identity of the suspect and found him at a home on the 4500 block of North Vancouver Avenue in Portland.
His name had not yet been released Tuesday night.
