Nordstrom is reportedly headed to New York City.
After spending the past two decades looking to open a store in Manhattan, the New York Times reports the department store chain, based in Seattle, has finally found the right location.
Retail executives told the newspaper that the move is "a very big deal."
The location on 57th Street is about 20 blocks north of Macy's and well west of Saks Fifth Avenue and the luxury stores on Madison Avenue.
A spokeswoman for Nordstrom, declined to comment to the newspaper, as did Gary Barnett, executive of Extell Development. But real estate executives, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to discuss it, said that Nordstrom planned to make an announcement about the store on Thursday with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.
