Hundreds wait to be placed on list for new low-income housing complex

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Rain or shine, hundreds of people waited in line Tuesday just to be put on a waiting list for a new low-income housing complex in Portland.

The New Columbia Villa on North Trenton Street is accepting applications for federally subsidized Section 8 housing for those who qualify.

The waiting list is open now through Thursday.

A line to turn in applications began to form Monday night because the website said the agency would consider the applications on a first-come, first-serve basis.

About 2,000 applications are expected to come in over the next three days.
