PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Portland City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the creation of a Central Eastside Parking Meter District (CEID).
The meters are part of an overall parking management plan that has been in development by the Central Eastside Industrial Council for almost two years.
The area involved stretches from Southeast Powell Boulevard to I-84, and from the Eastbank Esplanade to 12th Avenue.

The plan addresses employee parking and access to businesses for customers, suppliers and delivery service providers. It also establishes a permit program to create priority parking for employees in the CEID and two-hour time limits for visitors.
"This plan establishes a framework that will enable the Central Eastside Industrial District to remain economically strong as it grows," said Juliana Lukasik, Chair of the CEID.
The metered parking is also expected to discourage commuters from parking free in the Central Eastside and then walking, biking or using public transportation into downtown Portland.
The first meters are expected to be installed this fall.
