PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland police are trying to find out what lead to an SUV hitting a pedestrian in downtown Portland.
Police say it happened just before midnight at West Burnside and Second Street.
Paramedics rushed the person with life-threatening injuries to an area hospital.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene and there was no sign that person was impaired.
The person who was hit was not in a crosswalk.
Witnesses tell Fox 12 many people jaywalk across the streets in that area.
"What's the most upsetting is I've jaywalked across this street a thousand times, and that could have been anyone," said Elowyn Allankenter.
No word yet from investigators if that is what happened.
