Wildland firefighters in Oregon completed training preparing them to respond to fires throughout the west.
Close to 200 firefighters completed the annual fire school held in Sweet Home this week. They are part of several agencies, including the Oregon Department of Forestry, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forestry service and a handful of private timber companies.
After four days in the classroom, they spent Friday containing a practice fire.
In fact, some of the people who help operate the school left to fight wildfires currently burning elsewhere in the country.
"I can think of four or five people who are part of the cadre of the school that are now in Montana and Colorado who left within the past few days," said Ed Keith, with the Oregon Department of Forestry. "It's entirely possible that any firefighter that's out here today, by Monday morning, can be on a fire line anywhere in the west."
