Crews were called in to battle an apartment fire in Southeast Portland.
The fire started just before 6 a.m. Saturday morning at an apartment building on East Burnside and 52nd.
Fire officials say a malfunction in the electrical service line that leads into the building caused the blaze. That malfunction heated up a metal mast leading into the attic to heat up and start the fire.
Crews had to change their fire attack plan while the waited for PGE to shut off power to the building.
Ladder crews had to wait to use ladder trucks to cut holes in the roof and fight the fire because of the risk of electrocution.
Firefighters inside the apartment building were able to keep the fire in check until PGE cut the power 30 minutes later, according to fire officials.
Crews briefly shut down the westbound lanes of traffic on Burnside between 52nd and 55th while the fought the fire.
They were able to contain the fire to the attic.
Fire officials say "a couple" apartments suffered smoke and water damage.
Everyone made it out safely and no one was hurt.
The Red Cross is helping the six people who were displaced by the fire.
