Shelby Thompson
WASHINGTON COUNTY (KPTV) -
Oregon State Police troopers arrested a wanted Gaston man Wednesday evening along Highway 26 near Hillsboro.
At about 7:05 p.m. troopers overheard a reported single car crash by Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency.
A trooper arrived on scene and found a stolen and abandoned 2005 Subaru Legacy with Oregon license plates.
While at the scene, the trooper saw a man, later identified as 23-year-old Shelby Thompson, jogging westbound north of Highway 26 and notified another trooper in the area, police said.
Trooper Will Brindza saw Thompson run across the highway, causing a two-vehicle crash, investigators told FOX 12.
Brindza ran after the man and detained him following a brief chase.
Thompson was wanted on felony warrants for probation violation, parole violation, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and first-degree theft.
He was lodged at the Washington County Jail on the warrants and another charge of second-degree disorderly conduct.
Upon arrival at the jail, Thompson was found in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, OSP said.
The investigation into the recovered stolen Subaru is continuing.
Thompson has not been charged in connection with that investigation, police said.
