GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -
A suspicious death at a Gresham apartment is being treated as a homicide, detectives said Thursday.
Gresham police were called to the apartment at 17899 NE Oregon St. just before 1 a.m. to look into a report of an unresponsive person. When they arrived, they found the man dead of gunshot wounds.
Many neighbors said they heard what they thought were fireworks, but now, looking back, they believe they heard gunshots coming from one of the apartments.
It's not known who was inside with the victim at the time of the shooting, or who called 911.
Detectives have remained extremely tight-lipped about the death, and they haven't released the name of the victim or a description of a suspect.
They also haven't said where the man was shot, and they're still investigating whether the person was invited into the victim's apartment or if the shooter broke in.
Detectives said they don't believe it's a random attack, but neighbors said they're still feeling uneasy knowing the suspect is still on the run.
"Someone is probably still out there playing around with guns. Someone has a vendetta for someone. I don't want my kid to be around (this), it makes me not want them to play outside," said neighbor Katrina Blackwell. "It's bad enough as it is to deal with someone waving around guns trying to shoot people."
An autopsy will be performed on the victim sometime later this week.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police tip line at 503-618-2719.
