Portland bartender to compete at world bartending competition

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland is making national news in the culinary world once again.

Portland bartender Ricky Gomez will represent the U.S. at a world bartending competition next week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Gomez, a bartender at Pearl District restaurant Riffle NW, will leave for Brazil on Friday.

Last month, he beat out 20 other top bartenders at the U.S. finals.

The four-part competition required him to prepare a twist on a classic cocktail, give a presentation about a famous American icon, pair cocktails with food on the fly and create a cocktail using an unknown ingredient.
