3-year-old's death in Seaside being considered suspicious

SEASIDE, OR (KPTV) -

An autopsy showed a 3-year-old girl who died at a Seaside home had been a healthy child prior to her death, police said Friday.

A caller reported an unresponsive child to 911 dispatchers around 11 a.m. Thursday morning.

Medics were sent to a home on Third Avenue where they said they found the child dead.

Detectives said the girl had been sleeping on the couch with her father. When the father woke up, he found the child not breathing and a call for help was made.

Investigators consider the death suspicious, but no cause or manner of death is being released pending further investigation, including toxicology reports.

Seaside police and the Clatsop County Major Crime Team are continuing to look into the incident.

So far, no arrests have been made. Police will hand over their investigation to the district attorney's office to determine whether charges will need to be filed.

The child's mother currently lives in Alaska.
