WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said a 36-year-old Hillsboro man crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car Wednesday at the intersection of Northwest Helvetia Road and Northwest West Union Road.

Amit Agarwal was transported to the hospital by Lifeflight. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. There were two occupants in the car he hit, and they both suffered minor injuries.

Agarwal was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and assault in the fourth degree.

In total, 27 DUII drivers were arrested and taken off of the region's roadways during the Fourth of July holiday as a result of a consolidated effort by the regional sheriff's offices from Clackamas, Clark, Marion, Multnomah, Washington and Yamhill counties.

Deputies from the six sheriff's offices in the region worked extra shifts from 12 a.m. on the morning of July 4 through 7 a.m. on July 5.

Although at least one crash was reported involving a DUII driver, there were no vehicle-related fatalities reported in the six-county area.

During the time period, sheriff's deputies made more than 300 traffic stops and issued more than 189 citations.
