PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A mother whose three children were found in a shed with a group of homeless people made her first court appearance Thursday.
A judge appointed an attorney for Evanjilina Caraveo Grande and set a date for a new custody hearing.
The children's father will appear at that hearing by phone because he lives in Mexico.
The later court hearing date will give state officials time to retrieve records from Mexico and Florida in connection with the case.
Portland police found the children in a shed on Southeast Rhine Street in May after getting a call from a concerned neighbor.
For now, Caraveo Grande's children will stay in state custody.
