Summer weather has finally arrived. We got a taste of it on Friday, but even higher temperatures are on the way as we head into the warmest weekend of the season so far.
The fountain park across from the library in Beaverton looked more like a water amusement park as dozens of kids splashed and played in the water shooting up from jets in the ground.
"Summer time is finally here and they're excited about the weather so it's been awesome," said parent Jennifer Goodrich, who took her kids to play in the park.
It's not just the kids – parents love the warm weather too.
"I came out here to enjoy the weather with my son and family," said Doug Stewart, who brought his baby son to play in the water. "Also, for me to be able to cool down."
Of course, playing around in the water isn't for everyone. Some families chilled out in the shade with a picnic and a cooler of cold beverages. Others busted out the beach towels and soaked up some sun in the grass.
While the warm-up we're experiencing is nothing compared to the sweltering temperatures other states are seeing, it still takes some getting used to.
"Well the funny thing is I don't know if it is hot really compared to other states, but for us this is a heat wave," said parent Corrie Triplett. "So it's a way for us to go outside and play."
But with fun the sun comes the risk of dehydration. Parents made sure their kids had plenty to drink and lots of sunscreen.
"Lots of sunscreen obviously and hats if they'll keep them on their heads. But lots of sunscreen, water and snacks," Goodrich said.
