ALOHA, OR (KPTV) -
A 54-year-old Aloha man shot by deputies Saturday evening has died.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Jeffery Anderson passed away early Sunday morning at OHSU.
The shooting occurred in the area of Southwest 195th Avenue and Farmington Road in the Aloha area around 8:15 p.m.
Deputies reported that someone spotted Anderson walking along Southwest Farmington Road, carrying a rifle and pointing it at people and children.
Video shows the man putting the rifle down when deputies arrived.
He approached them with his hands in the air momentarily, then went back and picked up the rifle again.
Witnesses said the man tried shooting at deputies, saying he pulled the trigger but it jammed. That's when a witness said the deputies opened fire, shooting the man twice.
The sheriff's office reported that two deputies opened fire on the man. Emergency crews took him to OHSU and he was later pronounced dead.
A woman who said she has been Anderson's neighbor for more than 20 years said she doesn't know why he was in the street with the gun.
"I have never seen him acting bizarre," said neighbor Sherry Statler. "He's always just been a responsible homeowner. So it's very surprising for me to hear about this. I'm very sad."
Anderson lived in a home right up the street where he was shot.
No one else was hurt.
