Lane closure planned for Highway 26

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

The Oregon Department of Transportation will close the eastbound left lane on U.S. 26 between Northwest 185th Avenue and Cornell Road from 12:01 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday morning.

The two-mile section of the left lane will need to close for three full days to allow crews to grind the existing asphalt and pave a new driving surface. This step is needed to complete the highway modernization project.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said drivers will notice the eastbound lane closed and the center and right lane shifted to the south side of the highway Wednesday morning. Eastbound drivers should expect delays.

The project has added an additional travel lane from Northwest Cornell Road to 185th Avenue, providing three lanes in each direction from downtown Portland to 185th Avenue.

The new eastbound lane opened in November 2011, the westbound lane in December 2011. The final steps in the project, including paving, striping and cleanup work, will be complete in the summer of 2012.
