TUALATIN, OR (KPTV) -
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) officials have determined that a higher than normal concentration of chlorine in a cleaning chemical mixture led to breathing problems in 10 children who visited a local pool.
On July 7, a group of young children breathed in the toxic chemicals in the air around the kiddie pool at Club Sport in Tualatin.
Witnesses said the children were throwing up when managers evacuated the pool and called 911.
Paramedics said all of the affected children were between the ages of 4 and 8, and were struggling to breathe when ambulances arrived.
Managers at Club Sport told FOX 12 on Wednesday that since the incident, they have installed new sensors at the pool to better detect unhealthy chlorine levels.
They have also had a pool chemicals expert inspect and sign off on the new equipment.
The pool reopened to members Tuesday afternoon.
According to TVF&R, crews responded to a similar call at the pool in 2011, but its patrons did not suffer as severe of reactions.
