SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
The family of Greg Priest, who was killed while putting up road construction signs in Canby Tuesday night, has released a statement.
The statement, provided by Priest's employer, Knife River Corporation, reads:
"We want to thank everyone for their thoughts and the kindness they have extended to us today, and also for respecting our privacy during this difficult time. This is hard beyond words. Not only did we lose our fun-loving, hard-working Greg in that accident, but his 6-year-old son lost his father. We are a close family, which makes this so hard to take but also helps hold us together. We will miss our time with Greg - particularly the fishing trips he loved so much - and we will keep his memory alive for his son. Thank you again for your prayers and understanding."
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Priest was hit and killed by a drunk driver at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday. He was working in Canby near South New Era Road and South Haines Road.
Priest lived in Salem and worked for Knife River Corporation. In addition to his young son, Priest also had a 14-year-old stepson.
Bruce Dancer, 40, was booked into jail on a charge of DUII. He was released Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say more charges may be filed against him.
