PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A 40-year-old man was stabbed to death shortly after midnight in northeast Portland on Thursday.
Officers were called to the Village Garden Apartments on Sandy Boulevard about 12:20 a.m. on reports of a disturbance. When police arrived, they found Dion Matthews suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate Matthews, but he died at the scene.
A woman told FOX 12 her nephew, who was visiting a friend who lives at the complex, heard screaming, tried to help Matthews and then called 911.
Police did identify a person of interest, who was last seen walking eastbound out of the complex.
He's described as a black man, wearing a baseball cap and plaid shorts or pants.
Officers and a police K-9 did not locate the man.
Investigators have not released a cause of death, what may have led to the fight or if it was gang-related.
