Neighbor's 911 call helps stop burglary in Vancouver neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -
An alert man in Vancouver saved his neighbors from burglary by calling 911 after he saw an unknown man enter their house through the back door Thursday evening.

The residents were inside the home and unaware of the intruder when Vancouver police patrol officers and detectives from the West Neighborhood Response Team arrived at the scene.

A man and two young children who were upstairs while the burglary was taking place were escorted out of the home by police.

But a woman taking a nap downstairs was in the same part of the house as the burglar.

The police called her cell phone with details about the intruder and told her to stay inside the bedroom for her safety.

When officers confronted the suspect, 33-year-old Shaun Turner, officers used a Taser on him and took him into custody after taking a knife from him.
He was taken to the Clark County Jail for first degree burglary and resisting arrest.

No one who lives in the home was harmed.
