Woman fleeing wildfire crashes, ignites new blaze

Posted: Updated:

A Colorado woman fleeing the state's deadly wildfires crashed en route to her father's home in Oregon, sparking a new blaze near an interstate in Idaho.

Krista McCann tells KTVB-TV that she loaded her most valued possessions in her car in Colorado Springs, Colo., and fled the 29-square-mile Waldo Canyon fire.

The 19-year-old McCann says she lost control of her Subaru while attempting to pass another car on U.S. Interstate 84 between Boise and Mountain Home.

She escaped the crash without injury, but lost everything in her car except her purse. The crash ignited a wildfire near the interstate that burned 2,000 acres and was declared controlled on Wednesday night.

The fire McCann fled in Colorado destroyed nearly 350 homes, making it the most destructive in Colorado history.
