WILSONVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

Fire crews and neighbors alike are calling a dog a hero after a triplex fire in Wilsonville.

The fire started in one of the units at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning on Southwest Fairway Drive near Arbor Lake Drive.

The homeowners were startled away by their small dog and woke up to a home full of smoke.

Those owners quickly left their unit and woke up their adjoining neighbors.

Crews attacked the fire and made their way into the center unit which was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters said, at first, they focused on containing the blaze because of the large amount of fire.

They were able to have most of it out in a little over 40 minutes.

Firefighters were able to contain most of the damage to the middle unit.

The other two units suffered some smoke and heat damage

Crews took one person to a hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.

No one else was hurt.

Four people are staying with friends and family as a result of the blaze.

Crews are working to determine the cause of the fire.

There's no word on a damage estimate as of Saturday morning.
