PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Police gang enforcement officers arrested a wanted man in Northeast Portland on Friday night.

They attempted to contact a man, later identified as Warren Murphy, 25, on Northeast Morgan Street near 18th just before 8 p.m.

Police said Murphy immediately ran from officers into the neighborhood and out of sight.

Officers said they noted he was holding his front waistband as he ran from police.

Officers immediately set up a neighborhood perimeter and called in a canine unit and air support.

Police said they located Murphy at a home one Northeast Buffalo Street near 19th after an "extensive neighborhood search."

They also searched the area for weapons because of the way Murphy was reportedly holding his waistband as he ran but turned up empty handed.

Portland police are asking anyone who discovers a gun or other items in their yard call the nonemergency line and file a report.

Murphy was found to have a felony drug warrant and booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
