Just weeks after graduating high school, a Vancouver teenager was badly injured in a rollover car crash during a senior trip to California.
As Mandy Lathim fights for her life in a Redding area hospital, friends and classmates in Washington are working to raise money with fundraisers to help cover the medical bills.
Mandy was with three friends when the crash occurred on July 1st on I-5 in Siskiyou County. The driver became distracted and lost control of his vehicle, which rolled several times. Mandy was sitting in the left rear seat of the car, and she was not wearing a seat belt.
She is the only member of the group who remains in the hospital. No drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
Friends have set up a page on Facebook where they're sharing updates, prayers and information about fundraisers to support Mandy and her family.
Local restaurants are also donating a portion of their proceeds to Lathim's recovery efforts, and donations can also be made at any area Columbia Credit Union.
