WOODLAND, WA (KPTV) -
A 17-year-old boy was treated for hypothermia Sunday after getting stranded on the Columbia River.
The teen was on a boat with six other people when their boat's rope became caught in the propeller, disabling it. The group's boat made it to a nearby island, but because they were on the opposite side of the main channel, they were unable to get anyone's attention.
Two of the teens decided to swim to shore.
The current swept both teens downstream; one made it to dry land, and the other spent three hours on a sandbar in 3 feet of water.
Rescue crews picked the teenager up around 9 p.m. Sunday and treated him for hypothermia.
