OREGON CITY, OR (KPTV) -
Police have identified the man who died after falling 30 feet from a water tower into the Clackamas River.
Authorities said 24-year-old Charles Metler swam from the Gladstone side of the river to the Oregon City side Monday night.
Afterwards, witnesses told officers that he tried to climb a water pump station near Billy Goat Island.
Friends said Metler did the same thing earlier in the day and jumped into the river.
The second time, he slipped and fell.
Emergency crews said he died before they arrived at the scene.
There is no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
