PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
New liquor laws in Washington are providing a boost to liquor stores across the border in Oregon.
The new laws have resulted in drastic difference in prices between the two states, in some cases. With lower prices in Oregon, businesses near the border are seeing a big jump in the number of customers.
A study of 13 liquor stores along the Oregon/Washington border shows an average increase of 35 percent last month compared to June 2011. An increase of that size means each store made tens of thousands of dollars in revenue.
A few prominent examples include the Rainier Liquor Store that saw a jump of 60 percent. That price jump translated to nearly $328,000 in profits.
In Jantzen Beach, the store had nearly $1 million in sales, for an increase of 46 percent.
Portland's Kenton Store jumped 10 percent, which is $22,000 in extra liquor.
