PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Portland police crisis negotiators were involved in a standoff mid-day Thursday at the Madison Suites Motel, but it turned out the suspects weren't inside the room as previously believed.
Officers feared one of two wanted people inside the room was armed with a gun.
The motel is located at 3620 NE 82nd Ave., and police temporarily shut down traffic on 82nd between Fremont and Failing streets to allow for officers to negotiate.
Police were using loudspeakers to try to communicate with the suspects, asking them not to take action against officers, saying "We want to get your children out peacefully and we want to get you out peacefully."
Officers haven't released the names of the two wanted suspects so far, only describing them as one man and one woman. Police believe the pair escaped before officers surrounded the motel.
