Portland police to add extra patrols around movie theaters

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police will provide extra patrols around movie theaters Friday in response to a mass shooting in Colorado that left 12 people dead and 59 wounded during The Dark Knight Rises premiere.

Officers said they'll be on patrol "to help people feel reassured about their personal safety."

At this time, there's no information to suggest a similar shooting will happen in Portland.

"We join with the rest of the nation in grieving this unthinkable violent tragedy," said Chief Mike Reese. "Similar to other cities and other law enforcement agencies, we want to ensure people feel safe while they are out enjoying entertainment venues."

The Portland Police Bureau asks that anyone in the public seeing something suspicious around Portland movie theaters to call 911.

James Holmes, 24, the man police believe committed the murders at the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, is in custody in Colorado.
