Caught on camera: Jewelry thief returns to scene of crime

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Fox 12's Most Wanted returned to the scene of the crime to try and steal from the same jewelry store he hit a month ago.

Surveillance video from Rebel Jeweler on NW Couch shows the suspect in action. The owner, Tim Greve, told Fox 12 he recognized him right away when he strolled into the shop yesterday.

"He came in and tried to get us again," Greve said.

Greve said the same man stole three pricey rings from his store last month, worth about $1,600.

"He was pretty slick about it, and even this time, he was very nonchalant," Greve said.

Greve said the man apparently didn't realize he had been recognized and even tried to strike up a conversation.

"He was asking me about some cuff links and new merchandise," explained Greve who had one other customer in the shop at the same time.

Greve called 911 and locked the front door of the store so the suspect couldn't escape, but the man headed to the back of the store and managed to leave through the fire escape.

Even though the man didn't steal anything this time around, Greve hopes someone recognizes him on the surveillance video, so he's caught once and for all.

"I'm very angry. We pour our hearts and soul into this business and a lot of money, and take risks and create jobs," Greve said. "For people to take like that just isn't right."

Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call Portland police.
