Motorcyclist suffers serious injuries in Oak Grove crash

OAK GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

A motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital on Life Flight with serious injuries after a crash in Oak Grove.

It happened at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard near Silver Leaf lane.

Police said Charles Cobb, 84, of Milwaukie, was attempting to turn left in his 1999 Honda Civic from the center lane of northbound McLoughlin onto Silver Leaf Lane.

That's when a Honda motorcycle driven by Sean Kirby, 39, of Milwaukie, changed from the left to the right southbound lane and sped up, according to troopers, as the car was turning.

The motorcycle slammed into the passenger side of the car and Kirby was thrown off his motorcycle.

Cobb was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Kirby was taken to Oregon Health & Science University on Life Flight with serious injuries. Police said they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Kirby was wearing a helmet.

No citations have been issued to either driver.

The southbound lanes of McLoughlin Boulevard were closed for three hours after the crash.
