A judge heard arguments but didn't issue a ruling in the debate over whether to execute a death row inmate.
Gary Haugen wants to be put to death and has challenged Gov. John Kitzhaber's moratorium on the death penalty.
The governor said he was morally opposed to capital punishment and that he regretted the executions of two men who died during his first term as governor in the 1990s.
Haugen's attorney has argued that Kitzhaber doesn't have the power to stop this particular execution and has said Haugen shouldn't be used as a pawn in a campaign to repeal the death penalty in Oregon.
