SEATTLE (KPTV) -
The man accused of killing a woman in her southeast Portland home earlier this month will be heading back to Portland soon.
Mark Daniel Beebout was arrested in Seattle on July 19 in connection with the death of Nikayla Powell. Powell's body was found in her apartment near 15th and Belmont on July 10 after neighbors complained of a foul smell coming from her apartment.
Investigators say Powell met Beebout through a homeless outreach organization she volunteered for and was letting him stay in her apartment.
Beebout waived extradition in King County on Tuesday, and authorities expect him in Portland soon.
A vigil in Powell's honor is planned at 6 p.m. in Laurelhurst Park on July 31. Friends and family are encouraged to attend and share their memories of her.
