TriMet tops record ridership with more than 102 million trips on its buses, MAX and WES Commuter Rail for the first time in the agency's 43-year history.
Bus and MAX trips rose 2.4 and 2.0 percent during fiscal year 2012, while WES boarding rides rose 12.8 percent. In June alone, more than 8.5 million trips were taken on the system.
"This is a great milestone that shows riders value our service and the options it provides for getting around the region, whether to go to work, school or enjoy all the area has to offer," said TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane.
Although the growth in overall ridership for TriMet is relatively recent, WES has experienced a continuous increase in riders each month since its opening in February 2009.
