Newberg man missing, dog left inside home

NEWBERG, OR (KPTV) -

A Newberg man is missing and an ominous note, along with his dog, was left inside his home.

Newberg-Dundee police were called out to 406 S. Grant St. Tuesday night for a welfare check on 56-year-old James Bare.

Neighbors said they hadn't seen him for two weeks. It was out of the ordinary because he normally walks his dog every day.

Officers said Bare's only known vehicle was parked in the driveway. They knocked on the door and could hear a dog barking inside, but nobody answered.

Officers got inside and found the dog with a bag of food that had been intentionally left open.

Judging from the condition of the house, police said it was clear the dog had been locked inside the home for quite some time.

Officers also found a note indicating Bare was "going off to die." It requested a good home be found for his dog.

Police contacted Bare's family, but they haven't heard from him since mid-June.

It's not known if he had any access to weapons.

If you know where James Bare is, call the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, 503-538-8321.
