TIGARD, OR (KPTV) -

The 19-year-old passenger of a car struck by a speeding driver remains hospitalized today with life-threatening injuries.

Emily Hamilton was riding in the front passenger seat while her mother, Elizabeth Hamilton drove the two along Highway 99W near the Avalon Apartments in the 17000 block of the highway.

As the two crossed the highway to enter the apartment complex, they were hit on the passenger side of their car by a Chevrolet Trailblazer that was traveling northbound on Highway 99W.

Washington County Sheriff's Deputies said both vehicles sustained severe damage and came to rest in the apartment parking lot. The crash caused significant damage to a brick wall and traffic signs.

Elizabeth and Emily Hamilton were transported by ground ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital. Emily Hamilton sustained life-threatening injuries while Elizabeth is currently listed in stable condition.

The other car was driven by 18-year-old Manuel Mawleon. He had three passengers in his vehicle. No one in Mawleon's car was injured. Investigators believe Mawleon was traveling at a high rate of speed which was a contributing factor to this crash.

The northbound lanes of Highway 99W were closed intermittently for over five hours while the crash was investigated.  The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team is assisting with this incident due to the severity of the crash and injuries.
