Hanad Ali Haji
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Workers at a Portland convenience store and gas station thwarted a robbery on Thursday morning, police said.
It all started before 5:30 a.m. at the 76 Gas Station and Food Mart on 122nd and East Burnside.
As officers were en route, they learned that employees were holding down a robbery suspect with a fake gun.
Police took 18-year-old Hanad Ali Haji into custody and retrieved the replica firearm.
The orange tip of the toy gun appeared to have been cut off to make the gun look real, investigators told FOX 12.
Workers told police that Haji came into the store and pointed a gun at one of the clerks and told the other to open the cash register.
The employees then grabbed Haji and fought with him until they were able to disarm him and get him to the ground, detectives said.
Haji was taken to a Portland hospital to be treated for minor injuries and then later booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of robbery, coercion and menacing.
