PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A pregnant southeast Portland woman and her husband are asking for the public's help after someone accessed their savings account and stole their only car two months before the arrival of their first child.
Last Friday, Kate Blackmore said someone stole her purse during a work event in Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Right away, she said, the thief accessed their savings account at the Rivermark Community Credit Union and got away with $500.
Then, Wednesday morning, Kate's husband walked out of their apartment and their car was gone.
"When Ryan woke up the next morning, he realized the car wasn't here," said Blackmore, standing in her empty parking space. "So he had to have come up, put the key in and drove off while we were sleeping."
Blackmore called police, but the couple wanted to do more.
Luckily, the staff at Rivermark gave them pictures of the thief taken at the ATM, and they posted them on Craigslist, also including a description of their stolen Honda Civic.
Blackmore can't believe the suspect didn't even try to hide his face.
"Yeah, not super bright, but good for us because now we know what he looks like, and hopefully we can track him down," she said.
Blackmore and her husband said they just paid off their car. They don't have full coverage insurance and the Civic is their only vehicle.
Ryan Blackmore said it's a huge blow to their finances.
"If we don't get the car back, it will be another bill we have to take care of with a new baby," he said.
The Blackmores hope helpful Portlanders will take a close look at the suspect's pictures so they can get their car back, and their peace of mind.
"It's very hard not to feel unsafe and insecure being in your own home", said Kate. "He knows where we live so it doesn't feel good."
