PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police said their chief was working with gang enforcement officers when they made a stop that led to a gun arrest.

On July 25 at about 7:30 p.m., Portland Police Gang Enforcement Team officer John Billard was out working patrol with Chief Mike Reese in Southeast Portland's Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

They stopped a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass for a traffic violation at Southeast 118th and Holgate Boulevard and then talked with the driver of the car.

They said 20-year-old Antonio Mayshack did not have a driver's license or insurance and consented to a search by more officers from the Gang Enforcement Team.

Those officers said they found a loaded handgun in Mayshack's waistband and arrested him.

Mayshack now faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

The Portland Police Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Task Force continue to actively investigate gang and gun crimes in the city. They ask anyone with information about gang and/or illegal gun crimes to call them.
