FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -
A Forest Grove man pleaded not guilty to menacing charges in a Washington County courtroom Friday morning after police say he pointed a gun at children.
Norman VanDyke, 67, is accused of pointing a gun at three children who trespassed on his property June 5. The three boys had gotten off their bus at the wrong bus stop and decided to take a shortcut to get home by cutting through VanDyke's property on a gravel driveway, police said.
One of the three boys, a 7-year-old, told FOX 12 in June that VanDyke came out, ordered them to get off his property, and pointed an unloaded .22 caliber handgun at them. VanDyke's attorney, Ted Brindle, said Friday that his client did not point the gun at the boys.
One of VanDyke's neighbors describes him as a nice man who's had to put up with a lot of people trespassing on his property. He has posted "No Trespassing" signs in an effort to try to keep people out.
VanDyke posted bail after his arrest. He declined to talk to FOX 12 about what happened.
His next court appearance is set for Aug. 27.
