Columbia County, OR (KPTV) -
Dozens of cattle were seized from a rancher Friday when Columbia County Sheriff office executed a search warrant under suspicion of animal neglect.
It is not the first time law enforcement intervened with the cattle business of William F. Holdner, 86.
Holdner was convicted of two felony counts of water pollution related to his cattle business in March. He was sentenced to spend 5 days in jail and fined $300,000.
Last November humane society agents cited Holdner with second-degree animal neglect when Oregon Humane Society found many of the cattle to be 50 percent underweight.
In collaboration with the sheriff office to issue the warrant, Oregon Humane Society has agreed to use funds to reimburse the cost to feed and care for the herd.
According to the veterinarians, the animals displaying clear signs of neglect were transported to a location to be nursed back to health.
