A smoke detector alerted a sleeping family of three to a fire on their back porch this morning.
The alarm went off shortly after 6 a.m. in the 5400 block of Northwest Cherry Street. The parents and their child evacuated as fire spread to the attic.
Within minutes, fire fighters arrived on the scene and quickly knocked down the flames.
An investigation is underway to determine a cause.
Monetary damage estimates are still being assessed.
